Original Ink-on-Paper Figural Works by Hugo Maritz

A pair of original monochromatic figural works by South African artist Hugo Maritz, presented in newly finished custom frames and mats painted in Farrow & Ball’s Green Smoke No. 47.
 
Executed in layered black ink washes with delicate linework, the compositions balance abstraction and figuration with a distinctly atmospheric quality. Maritz’s work often explores contrast, proportion, and reduction of form; qualities that are especially evident here in the restrained palette and sculptural silhouettes.
 
The custom tonal framing creates a deeply integrated presentation, allowing the works to read almost architecturally against similarly hued interiors while maintaining a quiet graphic presence in lighter spaces.
 
Though available individually, the works were sourced and framed as a complementary pair and are especially compelling when installed together.
